The Adversary

The Adversary is the most recent book from Michael Crummey. With this title, I will be caught up with almost all the books from this author.

As with previous books, The Adversary is set in Newfoundland or East Coast of Canada. They tend to be character studies of the people who make up the small communities in remote parts of the country.

The land, temperature changes, snow, and storms at sea all have a role in the novels I have red so far. The books focus on individuals, and families, the strange dynamics of the communities as they often had to rely on themselves to survive the harsh conditions.

The novels seem claustrophobic at times with the amount of time people have to spend in doors, because of the weather.
