Red Queen

After the hype around the book and the author has faded, it is good to reach back to the vault to read books missed. Red Queen is one of those. I happen to have waited for a secondhand copy at a beloved local bookstore that has been run by the same family for decades. During a time when folks were stuck at home filling their days with hobbies, and learning things they had put off learning, I spent time building my home library with books from the secondhand section of the bookstore.

Red Queen was likely one of those books that I found tucked away in a draw, although I have forgotten when exactly I had acquired. It was likely one of the many visits I have made over the years.

The title is the first of a quartet. It is YA dystopian novel that is set in a society known as the New Era, and people are divided by the colour of their blood - red and silver. The silver-blooded are those who have supernatural abilities and have political power and wealth. The red-blooded are the ones without magic. They are disadvantaged and poor. The author celebrated the 10th anniversary of the release of the book in 2025.

A new standalone title is expected in September called Tempest set on the high seas.
