Dawn of the Firebird

A new epic fantasy from Canadian author Sarah Mughal Rana hit the shelves this past week. Dawn of the Firebird is the first book in a series, as well as the debut novel from the author.

A student at Oxford University, the author spends time reading fantasy, and science-fiction, as well as manga.

She also trains in martial arts, which she has incorporated into the book into realistic fight scenes. Rana also loves to include cultural aspects such as the food she grew up with. Her parents ran a restaurant in Toronto.

There are also the Islamic religious aspects to the book that are part of her life. The book follows a young woman determined to make it at a magical academy where she trains with the purpose of serving her country.

A defeat leads the protagonist to find her way into the enemy court seeking revenge. Will her training be enough against her foes?
