The Three Sisters Bar & Hotel by Katherine Govier is set in Alberta in 1911.
The completion of the railroad leads to newcomers arriving to make their home in the Bow Valley.
Among them is poacher Herbie Wishart who becomes a trail-guide for a secret fossil-hunting expedition lead by prominent American archeologist Charles Hodgson.
Charles is accompanied by his adult children, Humphrey and Isabel.
An argument during a snowstorm leads to the disappearance of the expedition.
